FAQ
Short answers to the questions people ask most. Follow the links for the full detail.
About the product
Is this gambling?
No. You fund a specific creative act, not a bet on an outcome. The best case is the creator does the dare; the worst case is you get refunded. There is no mechanism for one backer to win another backer's money. Wager and prediction-market framings are rejected before a dare is ever posted.
What is the difference between a dare and a bet?
A dare is a bounty for doing a concrete thing that is within the creator's control. A bet is a stake on an external event nobody at the table controls. We only allow the former - see Rules & disputes.
What token and currency do you use?
Dares are denominated in USDG, a stablecoin worth about one US dollar. On this testnet app it is test USDG with no real value. Funds are held in onchain escrow. See Set up your wallet.
Do I need a special wallet?
No. Sign in with email or Google and an embedded self-custody wallet is created for you, already pointed at Robinhood Chain testnet. If you prefer, you can connect a wallet you already have. Everything runs in your browser.
Money and refunds
What does it cost?
Nothing to post or back beyond a tiny network fee. The only platform fee is 2.5%, taken from the pot when a dare pays out. Full breakdown on Fees.
Can I get my money back?
Yes, until a dare locks. Your contribution is fully refundable before the pot hits the creator's floor, and it is refunded automatically if the dare is never claimed, never reaches the floor in time, the creator never submits proof, or a dispute is upheld. See the Dare lifecycle.
Do I owe tax on this?
We cannot give tax advice. You are responsible for any tax obligations in your own jurisdiction, whether you back dares or get paid for completing them. Keep your own records and consult a professional if you are unsure.
For creators
Do I have to do a dare someone aimed at me?
No. A dare aimed at you is invisible and link-only until you claim it, and claiming is your choice. You set the floor and define any stretch tiers, so money can never buy you past what you agreed to do. See For creators.
What if I claim a dare but cannot perform in time?
If you lock a dare and do not submit proof within the performance window, the escrow refunds your backers and you are not paid. There is no penalty beyond the missed payout, but repeated no-shows are not a good look.
What if the creator only half-does it?
That is what the dispute window is for. Backers can challenge proof that does not match the dare, and the platform rules on whether it counts. If the proof fails, backers are refunded.
Safety
Is my money safe?
Funds sit in a non-custodial onchain escrow contract, not with the company. The launch contracts are set to be independently audited before mainnet, the fee rate is capped in the contract, refunds are built in, and a watchdog returns disputed funds if the platform fails to rule in time. On this app the escrow runs on Robinhood Chain testnet with test tokens. Details on Safety & trust.
What if I lose access to my wallet?
Your wallet is self-custody. If you signed in with email or Google, you recover it by logging back in with that same method, so keep access to it. If you connected your own wallet, its recovery is down to you. Nobody at I Dare You can recover a wallet for you.
How do I report a dare?
Email hello@idareyou.xyz with the dare link. Anything that breaks the rules is removed and its backers refunded.
